Energy Efficient and Greener Building Products and Technologies

All demonstrations to take place at the bottom of Aisle 100

Wednesday, December 2 & Thursday, December 3

10:15am
Incentives for Energy Efficient New Construction
The presentation will focus on the energy saving incentives and zero interest loans provided through BBP and “Sustainable Energy Funds” for building retrofits in the 416 area code.
Toronto’s Better Buildings Partnership (BBP) is an innovative program administered by the Energy Efficiency Office to provide expertise, resources and financial assistance for energy efficient retrofits and new construction of Toronto buildings. The BBP’s primary goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

10:30am
Easy installation of New Footing Barriers
Nominated as OHBA's Product of the Year. Especially designed for use as a capillary break in fully insulated basements, DELTA®-FOOTING BARRIER will be applied into a new footing. The demonstration will show the easy application of DELTA®-FOOTING BARRIER and will include the forming of a keyway. We will demonstrate how DELTA®-FOOTING BARRIER is a ‘simple solution rising problem’.

Energy-efficient Building With ICFs and SIPs
From this demonstration you will learn why it takes more than a number to save energy, and about the sustainability and green benefits of ICF and SIP construction. Energy efficiency is about more than just R-value.  Insulating Concrete Forms and Structural Insulated Panels provide a building envelope that is tighter and goes up faster than traditional construction methods.

OntarioGreenSpec.ca: Home Sweet Home Competition - Official Launch
Show us what you've got Ontario! Come and join us in celebrating the launch of the Home Sweet Home Competition - a new competition awarding home-building and renovating teams who are creating Ontario's Sweetest homes: (1) energy efficient and economical; (2) ecologically and socially responsible; and (3) comfortable, quiet, and healthy. Come meet OntarioGreenSpec.ca, the Greater Toronto Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council, and the Net-Zero Energy Home Coalition, and learn more about green building in Ontario: get connected with people in your trade or profession who have made the switch to sustainable construction, onsite renewable energy technologies, and truly green products and workmanship.

Going Green with Housewrap and Roof Underlayment
Green home builders and buyers are looking to make decisions based on environmental and energy analyses and cost considerations.  Due to a buildings considerable life expectancy, the decision making process should take into account the initial manufacturing and construction impacts and the impacts of replacement and final disposal through the use phase as well. This demonstration will examine the life cycle analysis of Xmark Roof Underlayment, and how using Xmark Housewrap and Xmark Roof Underlayment can help to attain LEED® points, build an Energy Star® Qualified Home and demonstrate how these products are “greener” than conventional alternatives.

Next Generation Air Barrier Technology
BlueskinVP is the ‘next generation’ of self-adhered technology that offers significant benefits for all types of wall assemblies combining the benefits of a commercial breathable air barrier with traditional water resistive barriers. This vapour permeable air barrier with a tri-laminate polypropylene fabric laminated with a patented intermittent adhesive, achieving superior adhesion to exterior gypsum sheathing boards. These properties are essential to the construction of sustainable wall designs, among other benefits; reducing air leakage increases the thermal performance of wall assemblies as well as provides a fully adhered weather barrier to facilitate drainage and guard against water infiltration.

Off-Site Construction & Sustainability
This presentation will review several basic green building principles that are inherent to the
off-site modular construction project delivery method.  With a significantly shortened construction cycle, the typical ongoing activity, hazards and the related impact from vehicular traffic, site disruption and disturbance to the surrounding community, are greatly reduced.  Building off-site in a controlled environment regulates construction quality and scheduling, and minimizes material waste to landfill.

The Greener Side of Radiant Heat
This demonstration will show how radiant heating reduces energy consumption and environmental impact. In addition, the Energy-Star rated programmable thermostat reduces your energy consumption; by allowing you to warm only the rooms you use the most and only when you need the heat. The presenter will highlight new products and green projects we where both indoor and outdoor radiant heating systems were used.
